Join us during the Ballard Night Out, Thursday, May 18th for a special opportunity to meet the featured artists of our exhibit, "Photo Biologique: Light + Life." Brianna Tadeo will be in town from Oakland, CA for one night only to talk about her vibrant "Blood Prints" and share for the first time some behind the scenes video of her color darkroom process. DM Witman will be joining live via Skype from her darkroom studio in Maine to give us a peek into how she collaborates with common garden slugs to make her cosmically inspired "Supercluster Arion and Other Phenomena" series of silver-gelatin prints. You won't want to miss the chance to learn about these incredibly unique prints and meet the artists who make them.

Ben Calvo was the Staff Photographer for Woman’s Day magazine for 40 years, and was recognized as a successful commercial photographer in New York City where he was based. Since then, Ben has gone digital – and macro – and has spent the last 10 years photographing and printing botanical specimens from the Botanical Gardens and the streets of New York & Seattle.

Artists Laurette Chasse and Elaine Corets share a mutual obsession. Yarn. Inspired by the color riffs of Georgia O'Keefe, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Joan Miro, they decided to paint with wool. Technicolor sheep and other knitted pieces have come into being. Laurette’s signature collage work has also been informed by the study of these artists; snippets of O’Keefe/van Gogh/Miro appear in her new mirror frames.

Alexander Williamson is a Seattle based visual artist. The event is a sampling of 4 shows in one. Ranging from vivid anatomical skull paintings, to realistic mushroom illustrations with a flair of the enchanted, a completely unique genre he created using mushroom spore prints as artwork and lastly, the surreal Northwest Landscapes and Animals collection.
His current showing at Populuxe includes A Northwest themed Acrylic Painting series which is rich in surrealism and popart imagery. Along side paintings, you will find Surreal Sumi Ink Illustrations and scientific illustrations of various animal skulls and mushroom species.
