Venue: BallardWorks / 2856 NW Market St Event: October 17th 6pm - 9pm One Night Only In these days when we face a constant barrage of tough and upsetting news, art can offer balm for the soul, and dogs offer comfort and comedy. So to help sooth us as we enter the months of shorter, darker days, Ballardworks brings: “Comfort in the Images of Dogs", a multi media group exhibition of artists' representations of dogs. In The Devil’s Dictionary, Ambrose Bierce offers this definition: “DOG, n. A kind of additional or subsidiary Deity designed to catch the overflow and surplus of the world's worship.” And adds that for some, dogs take the “place to which there is no human … aspirant.” Join us for the opening reception on October 17th, to celebrate the month of harvest. Venue: BallardWorks / 2856 NW Market St Event: August 15th 6pm - 9pm One Night Only! www.facebook.com/events/1103668783167102/ "Drawings and Paintings" (third floor) and "Color of Life" (second floor) EXHIBITS' OPENINGS! Thursday, August 15th, 2019 6 PM – 9 PM BallardWorks is delighted to host the Solo Exhibits of Zola Khan and Christopher Stearns organized by Phil Stoiber. **************************************** ARTIST BIO: Zola Khan (ZolaKhan.com) "Color of Life" Farrukh, known professionally as Zola, is from Karachi, Pakistan. He trained and worked under the prominent Pakistani artist Gulgee and has supported himself as an independent artist for over a decade. Farrukh works in oils and acrylics; painting still lifes, landscapes, an abstract horse series, and other abstract works. His work is rhythmic and lively and utilizes expressive brush and knife work, and occasionally pointillism. He has had two solo exhibitions, one in Pakistan and one in Georgia (the country, not the state). Since receiving asylum status in June 2018, Farrukh has been living in Seattle. **************************************** ARTIST STATEMENT: Christopher Stearns Exhibit "Drawings + Paintings" This collection of works on paper represents my attempts to relate impressions from nature to language and architectural forms. Developed over the past 15 years, these works combine drawing, painting, and collage, with a dedication to a kind of lyricism and playfulness that I find liberating. Making these abstract compositions involves sequences of choices, using color, line, shape, and an intuitive sense of space. As I stretch to discover new visual combinations, the process of allowing the piece to tell me what to do next results in a layered formation of meaning. I am so proud to be part of Seattle’s rich and exciting creative community. ***************************************** Show: Exquisite Corpse, Group Invitation
