Tonight! Art Celebration and After Party

Tonight! It's the March 2018 Ballard Night Out. The art celebration is happening 6pm - 9pm at most venues. Afterwards, join us at the Substation where we'll have live music and performances starting at 9pm. It's just around the corner from The Leary Traveler and Ice Box, so you can see plenty of art and get a show. Your $5 for the After Party goes to benefit Ballard Night Out so we can keep supporting art in Ballard at no cost to venues and artists.

Tonight's show starts with Left Turn On Blue playing funk and R&B that'll get you out on the dance floor. They bring a vibrant energy to the stage with two amazing singers and a full brass section. Second to the stage will be Spooky Action. Spooky Action is anything but scary and we guarantee you haven't seen a performance like this before. Andrew plays keyboard and recites poetry while Elk brings the music and words to life as illustrations and comics projected onto a screen so you can see the creation from start to finish. The night ends with the actually spooky, ambient songs of King Nine Will Not Return.

Venue Update:
Ballyhoo will not have a new artist up, but will be open until 8pm tonight.
Electric Traveler Tattoo will not be open tonight due to illness.

Kelly Shipp's ceramic pieces are a combination of practical and decorative -- and really fun! Kelly is a Ballard resident and is just starting out her artistic career.

Oscar Baechler live painting and displaying selected works for the evening. Oscar is a Ballard resident and art teacher at Lake Washington Technical College.

Katie Kuffel will play live music at the event.

John Holm is a life long surfer and artist but as these things go, life got in the way of surfing and art became his business in the form of advertising. Years later, in a time when he's watching his grandchildren grow up his two passions, art and surfing, have finally come together. John now paints beautifully evocative images from memories of his early years surfing in Hawaii and California, his fluid and impressionistic style captures the essence of surfing perfectly.

Armed with pen and paper, a dozen artists roamed the floor of the Seattle/King County Clinic, a four-day pop-up clinic at the Seattle Center’s Key Arena that provided free medical, dental, and vision care to nearly 4,500 people last October. These were some of the most respected comics artists in the Pacific Northwest, and they were there to find out who these patients were, what experiences they had in trying to get healthcare day-to-day, and why so many were willing to wait for many hours at the Seattle Center–even overnight–for this clinic. GALLERY 1/1 is excited to present the Seattle debut of artists Thomas Condon and Juan Manuel Fernandez who each have a unique approach to creating hand-made photographic prints. Tom combines his training as a painter with an experimental “chemigram” technique, which utilizes hand-applied photochemistry to light-sensitive silver-gelatin paper create new - rather than reveal existing - images. Juan puts a contemporary twist on the historic wet plate collodion process to create photogram tintypes of complex geometric designs that are cameraless images made using darkroom techniques to produce the illusion of depth and dimension. These creations were inspired by trying to see the world through his kid's inquisitive eyes.

Join us for the Opening Reception on Thursday, March 15th from 6-9 p.m. during the Ballard Night Out. The exhibition runs through Saturday, May 12th.
