Venue: Populuxe Brewing / 826 NW 49th St Event: January 16th 6pm - 9pm Showing: Month of January Michael was born in upstate New York, attended Humboldt State University and the University of Washington. He settled in Seattle where he lives and works. His works are largely mixed media combining layers of photographic films, resin, paintings, metals, paper, reflective films and media. As a high school student Michael won the industrial arts award in photography for studies of microscopic crystallization formations. At the University of Washington, he studied painting, printmaking and digital photography and began combining photographic and traditional painting and drawing processes with digital technologies. In the late 1990s he began experimenting with large format digital printers and software. These experiments created a new path for Michael’s artistic output and expression which continues in his current work. Michael’s work is an expression of an experimentally curious mind. He likes to make more work for himself by posing disparate materials together in the tradition of Sigmar Polke; industrial materials, traditional paintings, photography both his own and appropriated from the web; a lifetime process that comes together and speaks of his concerns for the future of humanity and the planet. **Visitors during Ballard Night Out receive a dollar off a pint when you let them know we sent you!
